Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has rejected claims that the party’s Obi-Kwankwaso ticket will withdraw from the 2027 presidential election in favour of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar. Kwankwaso insisted that the ticket would remain in the race and would not step aside for any other party.

In a strongly worded statement, Kwankwaso expressed concern over the conduct of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, accusing its members of launching unnecessary attacks against him, NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi and the party. He described the alleged attacks as unhelpful and said the campaign team should focus on issues affecting the country.

Kwankwaso accused the ADC campaign team of spreading what he described as mischief by suggesting that the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket was working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He also rejected claims that the NDC candidates could withdraw from the presidential race at the last minute to support Atiku.

“Let me state clearly and unequivocally: we will not withdraw our candidature for the ADC or any other party,” he declared. He added that the ticket remained confident in its capacity, competence and readiness to lead Nigeria, dismissing suggestions that it was acting on behalf of the APC or any of its candidates.

The former Kano State governor urged the ADC campaign team to concentrate on responding to serious allegations reportedly levelled against Atiku by Vice President Kashim Shettima. Kwankwaso maintained that the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket had no reason to withdraw in favour of the ADC or any other political platform as political activities ahead of the 2027 presidential election continue.
