LAGOS 2027: QUALITIES THAT STAND HAMZAT OUT FROM THE CROWD

As Lagos State gradually looks ahead to the 2027 governorship election, discussions around who will succeed the current governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, are beginning to gain momentum. Many observers believe the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) remains the strongest contender to retain power, given its long-standing dominance in the state since 1999.

The conversation recently intensified after James Abiodun Faleke, who represents Ikeja Federal Constituency, publicly endorsed the current Deputy Governor, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, as a potential successor. In a message shared online, Faleke encouraged party supporters to rally behind Hamzat for the 2027 governorship race.

His endorsement quickly drew attention within political circles, with some interpreting it as a signal of backing from influential figures within the APC. However, others within the party have maintained that no official candidate has been selected, urging caution against premature conclusions.

The development appears to have slowed the momentum of other aspirants who had shown interest in the race, as attention shifts toward Hamzat’s growing profile within the party.

Hamzat, who has served in multiple capacities in Lagos State, is widely regarded as an experienced technocrat and loyal party member. His career in public service includes roles as Commissioner for Science and Technology and later Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, where he contributed to key reforms such as digitising government processes and tackling infrastructure challenges.

Currently serving as Deputy Governor, he has built a reputation for his methodical approach to governance and problem-solving, earning respect across different administrations he has worked under.

Analysts suggest that his blend of administrative experience, technical expertise, and political loyalty positions him as a strong contender should he secure the APC ticket. Still, the final decision will ultimately depend on the party’s internal processes and the will of voters in the upcoming election.
