The facility, established through a partnership involving the Enugu State Government, Godfrey Okoye University, and the Nigeria DNA Learning Centre, is designed to enhance criminal investigations through modern forensic science and evidence-based policing.

Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Mbah described the centre as a major milestone in strengthening the state’s security framework. He noted that while significant progress has been made in reducing crime, continued investment in security and innovation remains essential.

According to the governor, the new facility will improve the ability of law enforcement agencies to investigate crimes, identify suspects, and support prosecutions with scientific evidence. He warned individuals involved in criminal activities that advances in forensic technology would make it harder for offenders to escape detection.

Mbah stressed that evidence such as fingerprints, hair strands, blood samples, and other biological materials could now play a critical role in solving crimes. He urged residents to avoid tampering with crime scenes and instead notify security agencies promptly whenever incidents occur.

The governor also emphasized that the centre would serve not only Enugu State but also other states, institutions, and organizations seeking access to advanced forensic services. He described the project as a contribution toward building a justice system driven by science, facts, and credible evidence.

In addition, Mbah commended President Bola Tinubu for policy reforms that have increased funding available to states for infrastructure development and security improvements. He also welcomed ongoing efforts toward establishing state policing structures, describing them as a practical response to modern security challenges.

Several dignitaries at the event praised the initiative. The Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, described the facility as a significant boost to Nigeria’s justice and security systems, noting that it would strengthen forensic investigations and improve criminal prosecutions.

The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, said the centre would enhance investigations into serious crimes such as kidnapping, terrorism, armed robbery, homicide, human trafficking, and sexual offences. He added that the facility would also provide training and research opportunities for security personnel and forensic experts.

Officials involved in the project explained that the centre would focus on promoting scientific approaches to criminal investigations, supporting courts with reliable forensic evidence, and advancing research and professional training in forensic science and related fields.

Religious leaders and stakeholders also praised the collaboration behind the project, describing it as an example of how institutions can work together to promote security, justice, and national development.
