The Ministry of Works has allocated a significant N4 billion for the construction of a presidential helipad and jetty in Lagos, as part of its planned expenditures for the 2025 fiscal year.
In the 2025 Appropriation Bill, which President Bola Tinubu presented to the National Assembly on December 18, the ministry detailed its budget, underscoring key projects for the year. The total proposed federal budget for 2025 stands at N49.7 trillion, with the theme “Budget of Restoration: Securing Peace and Rebuilding Prosperity.” Tinubu emphasized that the budget reflects his administration’s commitment to ensuring peace, prosperity, and a brighter future for Nigeria.
According to an analysis of the budget breakdown, the Ministry of Works is set to receive a total of N1.057 trillion for construction and rehabilitation projects. Key allocations within this budget include:
- Public Schools Construction: N240 million for building new public schools
- Road Construction: N724 billion earmarked for road infrastructure
- Other Infrastructure Projects: N40.6 billion for general infrastructure development
The ministry is also prioritizing road rehabilitation, with N340 million dedicated to public schools and N289.4 billion for roads, alongside N2.48 billion for office buildings.
Among the high-profile road projects, the budget includes:
- N10 billion for the dualization of the Kano-Maiduguri road (Section V) connecting multiple northern states
- N6 billion for the Abuja-Lokoja road reconstruction
- N12 billion for Section One of the Kano-Wudil-Shuarin road
- N34 billion for the dualization of Kano-Katsina road
- N23 billion for the rehabilitation of the Enugu-Port Harcourt road (Sections 3 and 4)
- N75 billion for the first phase of the Kano-Katsina road dualization
Additionally, the budget allocates:
- N15 billion for the rehabilitation of sections of the Bauchi-Jigawa border road
- N1 billion for asphalting the David Umahi Federal Medical University road
- N2 billion for counterpart funding for the Lekki Axial road project
Other provisions include N5 billion for judgment debts and legal fees, N280 million for maintaining generators, and N1.7 billion for office building renovations. Additionally, N77.1 billion has been set aside for public-private partnership (PPP) due diligence and negotiations, alongside other specialized funding for engineering projects and media consultations.
