#Mofesomo Tayo-Oyetibo: A Rising Star in Nigeria’s Legal Profession

At just 34 years of age, Mofesomo Tayo-Oyetibo has been inducted into the prestigious body of Nigeria’s Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN), a remarkable milestone that underscores his exceptional promise in the legal profession. In celebration of this achievement, his father, renowned legal luminary Tayo Oyetibo, hosted a grand reception on Sunday, December 8, 2024.

The event was particularly significant for Tayo Oyetibo, who reflected on a poignant moment from his own career. He recounted how his father’s demise coincided with his induction into the body of SANs, leading to the use of the reception guest list for his father’s funeral. Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to witness his son’s celebration, Tayo described the occasion as a “double celebration” since he had not held a reception during his own induction. He attributed Mofesomo’s success to obedience and God’s grace, emphasizing the value of children honoring their parents.

Mrs. Oyetibo spoke emotionally about her son, giving God glory for his accomplishments. She expressed pride and deep gratitude for raising such an exemplary son.

Among the distinguished guests was the former Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, who described Mofesomo as a deserving young man with immense potential. The event drew eminent personalities, including former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, former Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, former Supreme Court Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour, the Soun of Ogbomoso, and prominent figures such as Princess Gloria Adebajo-Fraser MFR and her Scottish husband, Irvine Fraser, who brought a royal, charismatic touch to the gathering.

The legal community was well-represented, with many members of the body of SANs present. Mathew Burkaa, the first SAN from Tayo Oyetibo’s firm, was also in attendance to welcome Mofesomo to the prestigious rank.

In his response, Mofesomo expressed humility and gratitude to his seniors. He recounted how his hard work from the High Courts to the Supreme Court earned him an invitation to apply for the SAN rank. He shared a touching anecdote about a benefactor who sponsored his application form, sending him one million naira as a token of support, emphasizing that his success was not merely a result of his father’s influence but of his own diligence and dedication.

The reception, held at the Balmoral Hall, was a classy affair featuring an exquisite menu, assorted wines, and beautifully crafted cakes. Mofesomo’s wife, Winifred, gave the vote of thanks, rounding off a memorable evening.

Tayo Oyetibo’s unwavering commitment to guiding his son has set Mofesomo on a path to success. The event was a testament to the enduring values of hard work, mentorship, and family support. Prayers were offered for Mofesomo’s continued success and for his parents to enjoy a long and healthy life, reaping the rewards of their efforts and providing wise counsel to their children.

May Mofesomo Tayo-Oyetibo’s journey inspire future generations in the legal profession.
