Namibia’s communications regulator has reaffirmed its decision to reject Starlink’s licence applications, dismissing efforts to overturn the ruling.
According to the authorities, the satellite internet provider has yet to meet the country’s local ownership and control requirements, which are mandatory for companies seeking to operate in the telecommunications sector.
The decision mirrors the regulatory challenges Starlink has encountered in neighbouring South Africa, where similar ownership policies have delayed the company’s market entry.
Although Starlink has expanded rapidly across several African countries, its growth in parts of Southern Africa continues to face significant hurdles due to strict local ownership regulations imposed by governments in the region.
