Nigeria’s average daily crude oil production stood at 1.5 million barrels per day in August, allowing the country to meet its OPEC production quota for the fourth consecutive month in 2026.
The August figure represents a slight decline from the 1.505 million barrels per day recorded in July. Production had stood at 1.55 million barrels per day in June and 1.53 million barrels per day in May.
The August production data was obtained through direct communication with Nigerian authorities, while other production estimates are also compiled from secondary sources, including energy intelligence platforms.
Despite the slight decline, Nigeria maintained its position as Africa’s leading oil producer during the month. Libya followed with 1.39 million barrels per day, while Algeria recorded about 1 million barrels per day.
Data from secondary sources, however, placed Nigeria’s August crude production at 1.57 million barrels per day, higher than the 1.53 million barrels per day estimated for July.
The continued improvement in crude production could strengthen Nigeria’s foreign exchange earnings, particularly amid higher international oil prices.
