Nigerian Government to Distribute N4 Billion in Cash Aid to 10 Million Displaced Households
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Prof. Nentawe Yilwada, announced the approval of a N4 billion cash transfer program during the launch of the 2025 Nigeria Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan at the United Nations House in Abuja on Thursday.
This program, designed to support up to 10 million displaced households, will commence in February and run through April. It will prioritize the most vulnerable, particularly those residing in the Northeast region.
Key Program Features:
* Cash Transfers: Direct cash transfers will be distributed to eligible households to address immediate needs.
* Farmer Support: A separate allocation of N2 billion in interest-free loans has been earmarked for farmers in rural communities. These loans, ranging from N300,000 to N400,000 per household, will prioritize women, particularly widows, pregnant women, and individuals with disabilities.
* Focus on Resilience: The government emphasizes long-term solutions and building resilience in conflict-affected regions such as Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe.
Minister’s Statement:
Prof. Yilwada reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing the needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and other vulnerable groups. This initiative forms a crucial part of the government’s broader strategy to alleviate poverty and provide urgent relief to those in need.
