#Nigeria’s National Grid Collapses Again, Plunging Many into Darkness

Nigeria’s electricity grid has suffered another collapse, leaving many parts of the country without power. The failure occurred shortly after 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 12, 2025.

At 11 a.m., the grid was generating 4,064 megawatts, but this sharply dropped to 1,203MW by noon and completely shut down to 0.00MW at 1 p.m.

An X (formerly Twitter) account dedicated to tracking grid performance, @NationalGridNg, confirmed the incident, stating:

“There was a ‘GRID DISTURBANCE’ before noon today. Parts of the country experienced an outage. Further information shortly.”

Electricity distribution companies also acknowledged the collapse. The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company reported a system outage at 11:34 a.m., affecting all its feeders, while the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company assured customers that efforts were underway to restore supply.

This marks the first national grid collapse of 2025, following a minor disturbance in January. In 2024, the grid failed 12 times, highlighting ongoing challenges in Nigeria’s power sector.
