The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has said Nigeria has the capacity to increase oil production to 1.9 million barrels per day after recently reaching a peak of 1.86 million barrels per day in May.
The Commission Chief Executive, Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, made this known during a meeting with the Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Zacch Adedeji, at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

She said the country has effectively returned to strong production levels, noting that ongoing efforts are focused on sustaining and expanding output despite challenges such as infrastructure gaps, asset integrity issues, and human capacity limitations in the sector.
Eyesan added that one of her key priorities upon assuming office was the digitisation of NUPRC operations, which she said has largely been achieved.
Both agencies agreed during the meeting to strengthen collaboration aimed at improving transparency and accountability in the collection of oil and gas revenues.

The NUPRC also commended the reforms led by the NRS chairman, which resulted in the enactment of the NRS Act, describing the transition of revenue collection responsibilities as smooth and well-coordinated.
Eyesan emphasized that the Commission’s goal is to support oil and gas operators to grow sustainably while increasing overall industry value for national benefit.

On his part, NRS Chairman Zacch Adedeji praised the Commission’s professionalism and commitment to reform, pledging continued cooperation in managing revenue processes under the new legal framework.
He noted that the NRS role is to collect and account for revenue efficiently, stressing that collaboration between both institutions is essential for boosting national income in a transparent and sustainable manner.
