Oyebamiji Moves Ahead in Situation-Room Tally, but INEC Collation Remains Decisive

Early results from the Osun State governorship election have begun arriving from polling units, with the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, reportedly taking an initial lead in the provisional situation-room tally.
The emerging figures indicate an encouraging start for the APC as results from wards and local government areas are transmitted and independently collated. However, the returns remain incomplete and must not be mistaken for an official declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Only results announced by authorised INEC collation officers at the designated centres can determine the winner.
The early APC advantage nevertheless suggests that the contest could be significantly tighter than supporters of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke and the Accord Party had anticipated. Oyebamiji appears to be recording competitive numbers across several polling areas as the two leading parties battle for control of the state.
Voting was generally reported to have proceeded peacefully despite the political tensions, violence allegations and arrests that overshadowed the final week of campaigning. Security personnel maintained a visible presence across strategic locations, while voters turned out to exercise their franchise.
Earlier, Police confirmed the arrest of an Accord Party lawmaker alongside suspected imported voters. More than 200 Permanent Voter Cards were reportedly recovered, although investigations are continuing and no court has determined criminal responsibility.
Party agents and supporters must now remain calm as collation progresses. Provisional figures circulated by party situation rooms, media organisations or social-media platforms may contain errors, duplicated polling units or incomplete returns.
The APC may be leading the early count, but the election has not been won or lost.
The decisive figures will be those verified, collated and formally declared by INEC. Until then, Osun must reject premature victory celebrations, resist provocation and allow every lawful vote to count.
