The Nigeria Police Force has achieved significant breakthroughs in its fight against crime, dismantling an illegal weapons manufacturing operation in Benue State, arresting a suspected cultist in Delta State, and apprehending murder suspects in Kebbi State.
Illegal Weapons Factory Discovered in Benue
On January 11, 2025, police operatives conducted a raid at Tse Akamabe in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, uncovering an illegal weapons manufacturing factory. During the operation, two suspects, Friday Aduduakambe and Iorwashima Iornyume, also known as “AK,” aged 35, were arrested.
A search of the premises revealed the following items:
- Nine locally fabricated pistols
- One unfinished locally fabricated AK-47 rifle
- Two gas cylinders
- Four vise machines
- One filing machine
- Various tools used for weapon manufacturing
Cultist Arrested in Delta
In another operation, police in Delta State raided an apartment at DSC following credible intelligence. The property belonged to a notorious Eiye Confraternity member, Prosper Akeni, aged 32, identified as a hitman for the group.
Recovered items included:
- One English revolver pistol
- One Beretta pistol
- Two locally made double-barrel guns
- Two locally made single-barrel guns
- One locally made revolver pistol
- One locally made single-barrel pistol
- 25 rounds of ammunition
The suspect confessed to being in possession of the firearms on behalf of his cult group, where he held a leadership position.
Murder Suspects Arrested in Kebbi
Police also apprehended two murder suspects in Kebbi State:
- Yunusa Haruna: On December 31, 2024, Haruna, aged 25, fatally stabbed his elder brother, Isiyaku Haruna, in the chest during a dispute in Bakin Turu Village, Shanga LGA. He was arrested shortly after the incident.
- Abubakar Ummar: On January 8, 2025, Ummar was arrested in Zuru Village for stabbing Mohammed Bala during an argument, resulting in Bala’s death.
IGP Commends Operatives
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised the officers for their achievements in combating crime and restoring order. He urged police operatives to intensify efforts to ensure the safety and security of citizens across the country.
The IGP also encouraged the public to remain vigilant and collaborate with law enforcement by providing valuable information to enhance community-based policing initiatives.
