Retired public servant and policy expert, Dr. Mohammed Musa Zango, has called for improved commitment to the effective implementation of government policies in Nigeria after being honoured with a Fellowship Award by the Institute of Policy Management Development.
Speaking shortly after receiving the award, Dr. Zango described the recognition as a great privilege and a source of motivation to continue serving both the nation and humanity with dedication.

He revealed that the honour came as a surprise, explaining that the institute independently assessed his contributions to public service, leadership and politics without any prior nomination or direct contact.
According to him, the fellowship reflects merit-based recognition, as it was awarded based on his years of service rather than financial influence or personal connections.
Dr. Zango praised the institute for encouraging excellence through objective recognition, noting that such initiatives inspire professionals to remain committed to selfless service and national development.

Addressing the state of governance in Nigeria, he stressed that the country’s major challenge is not the formulation of policies but their implementation. He said many government programmes have failed to achieve their objectives due to weak execution.
He cited several development initiatives introduced by successive administrations, including President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, saying they possess great potential if properly implemented.
The policy expert called for a public service driven by professionalism, competence and the right attitude, arguing that committed personnel are essential to translating government policies into meaningful results for citizens.

Also honoured with a Fellowship Award was the Head of Press and Public Affairs at the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC), Nura Tanko Wakili.
Wakili described the fellowship as the institute’s highest category of membership, expressing gratitude for being recognised among distinguished professionals for his contributions.
He commended the institute for its efforts in advancing national development through quality policy formulation and effective implementation.

He further urged the organisation to continue producing evidence-based policy recommendations and engaging relevant authorities to ensure its proposals contribute to better governance and sustainable national development.
According to Wakili, the true value of the institute will be measured by the positive impact its recommendations have on government policies and society.
The fellowship awards were presented to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to public service, leadership and policy development while promoting professionalism and excellence in governance.
