PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU NOMINATES JOSEPH TEGBE AS MINISTER OF POWER

President Bola Tinubu has nominated Joseph Tegbe as the new Minister of Power, a move aimed at strengthening ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s electricity sector.

The announcement was made in a statement on Thursday, with the presidency confirming that the nomination will now be forwarded to the Senate for screening and confirmation as required by the constitution.

The development follows the resignation of former minister Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue his governorship ambition.

According to the presidency, Tegbe’s appointment is expected to support efforts to improve grid stability, deepen reforms in the power sector, and attract long-term investment into Nigeria’s energy infrastructure.

Tegbe, who hails from Oyo State, is described as a seasoned fiscal and economic reform expert with more than 35 years of experience across both public and private sectors.

He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led projects focused on fiscal reforms, institutional restructuring, and governance improvements. He has also advised several government bodies and private organisations on regulatory frameworks and investment strategy.

At present, he serves as Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), where he coordinates development cooperation initiatives between Nigeria and China in line with FOCAC objectives.

The presidency also noted that he has worked closely with key institutions in the power sector, including the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET), particularly on regulatory and institutional reforms.

The government expressed confidence that, if confirmed by the Senate, Tegbe will bring his extensive experience to drive further improvements in Nigeria’s electricity supply and sector performance.
