Prince Harry reportedly seeks gradual reconciliation with King Charles and royal family
Prince Harry is reportedly seeking to repair his relationship with the British Royal Family gradually, with regular private meetings with his father, King Charles III, said to be an important first step.
Friends of the Duke of Sussex reportedly believe his recent return to the United Kingdom could provide an opportunity for a longer-term reconciliation, with his relationship with the King said to be his immediate priority.
According to reports, the possibility of Harry meeting his father privately once a month has been discussed. Such meetings would give Charles more opportunities to spend time with his son and get closer to his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
A friend reportedly said Harry wants his children to develop a closer relationship with their grandfather and become a meaningful part of his life.
The proposed meetings are expected to remain informal, with Harry reportedly preferring to avoid the extensive official arrangements and Palace procedures that could accompany a formal royal engagement.
There are also hopes among some of Harry’s friends that the reconciliation could eventually extend to his older brother, Prince William.
One source suggested that the long-term ambition could be for the two brothers to eventually appear together publicly, although such a development is considered premature at present.
A public appearance involving both brothers would represent a major change after years of strained relations. Harry and William have had limited public interaction since Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from their roles as working royals and relocated to the United States.
Harry’s friends also reportedly believe attitudes towards him in Britain could be changing and that his return could create an opportunity to repair some of the relationships that have deteriorated over the years.
However, significant challenges remain.
Sources close to William have reportedly indicated that the Prince of Wales is not currently prepared to reconcile with his brother. William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, are also said to be approaching Harry and Meghan’s renewed presence in Britain cautiously.
For the moment, Harry’s relationship with King Charles appears to be in a better position than his relationship with William.
Any lasting reconciliation within the family is likely to take time, with private communication and gradual rebuilding of trust expected to play an important role.
