The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the deployment of eight Commissioners of Police to different state commands and appointed Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Auwal Musa Mohammed as the new Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano.
The commission said the postings were approved during its meeting on Wednesday and were made to fill operational gaps following the promotion of some former commissioners.
In a statement issued by the PSC spokesperson, Torty Kalu, the commission announced the deployment of CP Afolabi Wilfred Olutokunbo to Abia State, CP Ayodeji Faniyan to Plateau State, CP Saka Ajao to Bayelsa State, and CP Ajo Ordue to Cross River State.
Others are CP Nnanna Ama, who will head the Anambra State Command; CP Patrick Daaor, deployed to Edo State; CP Tijani Murtala, posted to Jigawa State; and CP Samuel Etaifo, assigned to Delta State.
“The Police Service Commission today approved the posting of AIG Auwal Musa Mohammed as Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano, and eight Commissioners of Police to various state commands,” the statement said.
The PSC explained that the appointments were aimed at improving policing operations and ensuring effective leadership across the affected commands.
Before their new assignments, the officers held various strategic positions within the Nigeria Police Force. Olutokunbo served as Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration, Training and Development, while Faniyan headed Administration at the Police Cooperative in Lagos.
Ajao was Commissioner of Police, Administration, at the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Gombe, while Ordue served as Commissioner of Police in charge of INTERPOL, Abuja. Ama was the CP Intelligence, while Daaor handled Administration at the Force Intelligence Department in Abuja.
The commission also confirmed the appointment of AIG Auwal Musa Mohammed as the Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy.
Mohammed brings more than 33 years of policing experience covering operations, investigations, intelligence-led policing and training.
He previously served as Commandant of the Police College, Maiduguri, Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, and Assistant Inspector-General of Police in Zones 3 and 6.
The new Police Academy Commandant holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Bayero University, Kano. He is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
The PSC Chairman, retired Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, who presided over the meeting, urged the newly appointed officers to remain professional, impartial and committed to the rule of law.
He charged them to “stand firm, uphold the rule of law, and remain neutral and diligent” while carrying out their responsibilities.
