RACE WIDENS: FEMALE ASPIRANT JOINS GOMBE 2027 GOVERNORSHIP CONTEST

Sa’adatu Sa’ad-Mustapha has officially entered the race for the 2027 Gombe State governorship under the All Progressives Congress (APC), becoming the only known female aspirant so far in the contest.

The former Commissioner for Environment and Forest Resources submitted her letter of intent at the APC state secretariat, marking her formal declaration to join what is expected to be a competitive party primary.

In her address to supporters, she said her decision to run is rooted in a commitment to inclusive leadership and public service, especially aimed at improving opportunities for women and young people.

She stressed that her ambition is driven by a desire to promote fairness, equality, and broader participation in governance, adding that women must move from the sidelines into active leadership roles.

Sa’ad-Mustapha, also known by her traditional title Alkebbar Kaltungo, hails from Kaltungo and previously served as Director General of Protocol and Facility Management under Governor Muhammadu Yahaya.

Her declaration has sparked discussions around gender representation in politics, particularly in the North-East, where women remain underrepresented in major elective positions.

She outlined a six-point agenda for her campaign, focusing on economic growth, youth and women empowerment, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and security.

According to her, her administration would prioritise grassroots development and policies that improve livelihoods while strengthening key sectors of the state economy.

She also reaffirmed her loyalty to the APC, promising transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance if given the party’s ticket.

Sa’ad-Mustapha expressed confidence in her chances, saying her candidacy is not only personal ambition but also a step toward expanding political inclusion in Gombe State.
