#Relief Before Rhetoric: Why Door-to-Door Campaigns May Backfire in 2025

As Nigeria endures a turbulent phase of economic transition, the launch of a door-to-door presidential campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections has triggered widespread debate. Many citizens, still reeling from the compounded effects of fuel subsidy removal, Naira floatation, tax expansion, and increased tariffs across essential sectors, question both the legality and the morality of campaigning amid national hardship.

For millions, the real campaign should begin not with posters or promises—but with visible relief, meaningful reform, and a strong social contract. Anything short of this risks alienating the very electorate whose support is being sought.

Economic Pressures: Facts That Cannot Be Ignored

Across key indicators, economic hardship continues to intensify for everyday Nigerians:

Headline inflation has surpassed 33.2% year-on-year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) as of April 2025.

Food inflation is over 40%, with the prices of rice, bread, beans, yam, and protein sources doubling in many markets.

The average price of cooking gas now stands at ₦1,300 per kilogram, compared to ₦750 in early 2023.

Transport costs have increased by 85% since the fuel subsidy was removed, with intra-city bus fares rising from ₦300 to ₦550–₦700 in many cities.

Electricity tariffs have gone up by 230% for Band A users, yet supply remains irregular.

Telecom and internet service charges have risen by over 27% due to forex fluctuations and new federal levies.

Bank charges continue to pile up, with users experiencing multiple debit alerts for transfers, ATM card maintenance, SMS alerts, and e-payment processing.

These figures are more than statistics—they represent daily distress and widespread discontent.

Legal and Political Dimensions of Premature Campaigns

According to the Electoral Act 2022, political campaigns are not permitted more than 150 days before election day. This places the legal window for presidential campaign activity sometime around late 2026, making any formal door-to-door campaign in 2025 unlawful.

Legality aside, the moral optics of early campaigning during economic hardship may damage political goodwill rather than build it.

Comparative Global Lessons: Relief Before Re-Election

Other countries that faced similar economic crises adopted a “relief-first” approach to regain trust before seeking re-election. Here are examples:

Indonesia (2005) removed fuel subsidies but immediately rolled out food and health subsidies. The result: the President was re-elected.

Ghana (2022) endured austerity but preserved free senior high school education and school meals, restoring some public confidence.

Brazil (2003–2006) created the Bolsa Família program, offering monthly food stipends to poor families. President Lula won a second term by a landslide.

Kenya (2023) introduced maize meal subsidies and provided free school lunches during high inflation, reducing civil unrest.

Lesson: Performance builds credibility; credibility earns votes.

Urgency of Real Impact: Commence Eden Agropolis and ICTN Now

To counterbalance the socio-economic hardship, two federal-level people-focused initiatives must begin immediately:

1. Eden Agropolis Project

A comprehensive food production and agro-industrial hub, fully irrigated across the 36 states and FCT.

It will create thousands of rural jobs, boost local farming, reduce food inflation, and promote exportable agro-products.

It is a visible, scalable project that Nigerians can physically benefit from.

2. Eden Frabemar Global ICTN (Cargo Tracking Note System)

A digital cargo visibility and trade security platform designed to block smuggling and under-invoicing at the ports.

This project will increase customs revenue by billions of naira annually, improve maritime security, and restore investor confidence.

It is cost-free to the Federal Government and can be implemented within 90–120 days.

These two projects, once operational, would immediately shift public perception from despair to hope.

Better Use of Political Funds: From Campaigns to Compassion

Instead of financing premature door-to-door campaigns, political stakeholders would earn long-term credibility by:

Subsidizing basic food items regionally through bulk purchases.

Offering state-supported inter-state transport for rural citizens.

Deploying mobile healthcare vans with essential medicine to urban slums and rural areas.

Rehabilitating local farm-to-market roads.

Launching interest-free MSME loans for youth and widows.

A few critical special intervention projects for short & medium term solutions recommended by the National Patriots for quick results.

If executed, these interventions are projected to increase the President’s approval rating by over 80% within 12–15 months—well ahead of the election year.

Global Expert Insights: Relief Is the Real Strategy

“You cannot fight poverty with policies alone. You fight poverty by making the people see, touch, and feel change in their daily lives.”
— President Paul Kagame, Republic of Rwanda

“Macroeconomic reforms must be matched with targeted social investments to avoid a backlash that threatens long-term development.”
— Kristalina Georgieva, IMF Managing Director (Dakar Summit on African Resilience, 2023)

Conclusion: A Human-Focused Presidency Is the Best Campaign

Real campaigns start with compassion. In this moment, compassion is stronger than persuasion, and relief is more convincing than rhetoric.

If President Tinubu’s government redirects campaign energies into meaningful interventions—like the Eden Agropolis and ICTN initiatives—he will have a strong foundation to seek re-election with legitimacy and dignity.

*Relief Before Rhetoric: Why Door-to-Door Campaigns May Backfire in 2025.
God loves Mr President otherwise, he would have experienced the greatest regret in his political life by the action of this controversial Door-to-Door initiative. We must thank Headlinenews.news, the Nigerian Patriots and Dr. Fraser for this interesting objective analysis. I enjoy reading her articles especially her analysis on various sectors. Mr. President, please alienate yourself from this doomed initiative which is dead on arrival and set up an initiative to address the shortcomings of your reform policies on the masses. It’s not about Palliatives, it’s about relief. I suggest you have a meeting directly with the National Patriots leader. You can’t afford to make mistakes now. Your detractors are only out to spill milk which they can’t produce. They don’t mean well for Nigeria but they can exploit the loophole of the people’s hardship to work against your re- election. You need the numbers, you need the popularity, you need the support where it matters. Those suffering now are those to vote. Spare a minute to reach out to those who can assist you in this regard. I strongly recommend a special intervention designed by them for short term solutions. They are professionals in perception management as well. We do not have much time, the elections are round the corner. This is the last phase to work. Deliver what the people can feel and benefit from as is contained in this report.
Prof. Ifatunbi.

Too Hungry to Hear: The Political Cost of Ignoring Nigeria’s Economic Hardship.
Mr. President, Please, try to appreciate Nigeria’s economic hardship. People are suffering and there is something that can be done urgently than this Door to Door campaign for 2027. It’s provocative. The people are shocked by this step. Whoever gave this advice is totally unaware of the general sentiments of the voters and Nigerians. You don’t need this now. Suspend it and disassociate yourself from it immediately. Thank those proposing it and let them know you are still working to address the people’s condition in this period of reform and economic hardship. Please do this immediately. People are so disappointed. You must do some damage control now and get a special intervention in place with a different team who can identify and deliver results in the short term to ramp up your popularity. This is very important. As far as we are concerned, you are the best candidate for 2027, but what your detractors are using against you must be addressed instantly. That’s what I call strategy. Please act now. Invite the National Patriots leader for more information and read all her articles. She is a very intelligent researcher, writer and strategist. I read all her works. I learnt she is a perception management guru too.
Take the right step and disown this door to door chaps who we heard collected billions from NNPCL. Tompolo is not the sort of character to launder your image or convince anybody to support you. We will look at the messenger and the message. Look at the jokers on the website. Who will take these ones seriously?
Retired intelligence officer.

Beyond Campaigns: Delivering Tangible Reforms Before 2027.
Mr President must be commended for his reforms, but he needs to address the challenging aspects of the Reforms so that people will appreciate his efforts. His reforms must have a human face. Let the poor breathe. It is not much to do, just special presidential directives for relief. It appears those working with the President don’t understand what is required by the people. It’s better to get a team to initiate this. I am sorry to say, but the incompetent people always end up as arrowheads of these presidential initiatives. The National Patriots has impressed me so much that I would suggest they assist with this out of box initiative for quick results. President must act immediately. Suspend the door to door scam and do something to add value to your popularity. Please act because I am an ardent supporter of your reforms. You are brave and I like your style. This is the only area remaining. No shame in getting help. Reach those who understand what it takes for fast results. You need it.
Olurotimi Ifakunle. Consultant.

Democracy Without Dividends: The Risk of Premature Mobilization.
It is bad advice to start this door to door now. I don’t know who is advising the President but this is a bad strategy. People’s reactions monitored so far have been negative. Many daring the door to door campaigners to reach their community and learn a bitter lesson. A hungry man they say, is an angry man. Please Mr. President, reconsider this step. The common man has not seen or felt any dividends of democracy, so what is there to convince people about? Does it make sense? The media are silent because they have received brown envelopes, but I am glad there is one with integrity. I am impressed with Headlinenews.news. They have done a good deed for the President with this objective report. This Premature Mobilization in 2025 is political suicide for many reasons which I can’t list here. I advise Mr. President to invite objective people like some from the National Patriots to assist or support because the dangers of this bad move will cause a stigma which will not be erased easily. Once this door to door flops or fails, then the President has failed in the eyes of the world and voters. It has a domino effect- it will continue to affect the President’s popularity index. How can an unpopular President win any election? Rigging is justifiable when there is popularity. This is Nigeria not Cameroon or some country without activists. Look at the way Natasha went on the global stage with her grievance. Nigerians will react. So, please use this year to consolidate your achievements and address the areas which require urgent attention. I recommend the National Patriots for immediate involvement and a direct intervention. President Tinubu is a listening President so please act to give the people some relief from these corporate sharks in Nigeria. We need protection from them urgently. Banks just deduct money from people’s account without our consent.
Ruquayat Bello. Teacher.

Fix the Pain, Earn the Vote: Governance as the Best Campaign Strategy.
One can’t overemphasize the importance of addressing the plight of the masses urgently before contemplating any form of campaign programme – direct or indirect. The people want a government that feels and cares for their suffering. Period. It’s important for the President to implement a special intervention, not money but relief for the heavy burden on the people. The problem is that these service providers & banks are making a very high level of profit in trillions which no such provider or bank makes anywhere in the world. Do you know how much banks make in the UK? Or service providers? They make their money on turnover not with high tariffs or rates. The National Patriots has a detailed blueprint for the FG to enable the reduction of these high tariffs. Also to reduce the cost of food stuff etc. I think Government should speak with them immediately. We need those with realistic ideas at this period to fix the Pain and earn the vote. This is what will guaranty the popularity of the President to get the numbers required for re- election and a landslide victory.
Dr. Oyewale. Lecturer.

You Can’t Campaign on an Empty Stomach.
True. It is not campaign period yet. It’s pointless wasting funds now while people are hungry. Will those doing the Door to Door be fed three times a day for the next 3 years? Will they convince people who have not eaten well in weeks or months? Who drink garri daily with their children? Eating fried , smoked, dried rats, termites, frogs or chicken legs from factories? This is the social reality. Situation is bad and there is no safety net in the country which exists in countries where such reforms are being implemented. Hungry people can’t go for door to door, they will collect the money and sit at home. This is the truth.
Cynthia Johnson. NGO worker.

Relief, Not Rallies: What Nigerians Really Want in 2025.

Definitely, 2025 is the year that will determine the result of 2027. I don’t envy the President. He has worked very hard and deserves a second term, but the voters are mainly illiterates and will never appreciate his reform policies but need what they can feel. Give them some relief. The banks, network providers, dstv, electricity, transporters, food stuff sellers are making life unbearable for them. Mr. Tunji Bello is trying his best, but what is required now is a direct presidential intervention. I respect the opinion of the National Patriots leader, Mr President should do things differently with another team to add value to his administration’s perception index. He is not appreciated by the people. When governing a population of 85% illiterates, you must evolve programs which can be appreciated by this target group. I think it’s wise to have a session with the National Patriots directly by Mr. President not his aides. I wish Mr President the best. This Door to Door is ill advised and not for 2025. It will affect Mr. President negatively. When people get stoned and attacked for trying to convince hungry people for an unpopular candidate, it sends negative signals to the public and the global stage. It will paint a negative perception of Tinubu as an unpopular leader and that will be difficult to change. The first impression matters. Please stop it now. I must commend Dr. Fraser for this report. Kudos. More Nigerians should be like her.
Elder Statesman.

From Palliatives to Progress: The Urgent Need for Human-Focused Reforms. As far as I can understand, President Tinubu has done very well. He will be the best Leader in Nigeria’s political history, but he needs to work on the human angle urgently now. It is obvious that those around him do not understand what this involves. He needs to bring in new hands to address this lapse immediately. Once this has been done, his popularity will increase and he could safely campaign door to door if he wishes to waste funds because his performance will speak for him. What is the NOA doing? People just occupy positions without any idea of what to do! That’s the challenge of appointments to those with capacity. Square pegs in square holes. The government needs to move fast to address these areas and conduct the impact of the programmes.
Former Senator.

Campaigns Must Have a Conscience.
This is An Invaluable assertion. What are we campaigning about? The masses who will vote for elections are presently disillusioned by the hardship of reforms which are essential. So, what is being done to cushion the effect of this hardship? We need to think out of the box. I like the suggestions in this article. Someone should make sure the President reads it and adopts it. He needs to know the people need some relief immediately from the ever increasing cost of living by tariff increase everywhere. Its strangulating. Mr. President should divert funds given for Door to Door to these projects for the people. A presidential intervention should be set up with on hands people who can deliver without the usual government bottleneck. We need results before 3 months. It’s getting late now. There are ideas, but no platform. This is what we expected from the Prdsident not this campaign. Campaign for what? We are not happy.
Folakemi Oshinowo. Banker.

Leadership with a Human Face: Rebuilding Trust Before 2027

On point! There is no need to say more. I hope President Tinubu reads this. The sycophants are coming out of the woods to do their usual scamming projects which will never add any political value or capital to the President’s performance index. What’s door to door at this time. Headlinenews.news conducted a survey on the President’s popularity and had 88%. Guardian newspapers conducted a survey and obtained 84%, does this not call for a different approach to the President’s strategy regarding performance & Perception Management? It is obvious that the absence of a perception management expert is affecting the administration just as it affected GEJ, Buhari etc. We have a perception management expert here so why have they not reached out? The National Patriots will provide the details. Perception Management is a highly professional area, with only two experts in Nigeria. It is different from media practitioners. That’s why the media team seem incapable of making a difference. It’s not their work. They are reporters. The President needs to get his act together before its too late. Prof. Mohammed.

Performance is the Message: Rethinking Strategy in Difficult Times.
I agree. Everything is all about performance in all relevant areas, not just infrastructure, education, but with the people themselves. There is a wide disconnect between the leadership & followership and this must be addressed immediately. It will determine the success or otherwise of any administration. Unfortunately, this gap is getting wider and wider due to the bite of the reform programs. I appreciate the perspective of Fraser in this report, it shows commendable insight and understanding. She has given examples of how other countries handled the challenges being experienced now in Nigeria with Reforms. It would be good if government considers some of these suggestions. All hands must be on deck to rescue Nigeria and her people at this period. It’s not about campaign now, but about the people who will vote. One needs popularity to win elections, and performance where it matters to get popularity. Retired Army General.

Feeding the Nation Is the Best Campaign Strategy.

This goes without saying. There are so many projects that will give visible results in a short term, like the Eden Projects which government should adopt immediately. Eden systems gives triple harvest in a short time without rainfall. The Eden Agropolis Project concept is amazing. I wonder if government is sincere about relieving the people’s hardship. If they are then they should reach out to the right people in time. This will be the best campaign strategy. In fact, without door to door, people will support the President’s re- election. This door to door is a scam. What is the party machinery doing?
There is a lot of special intervention to be done by the Presidency. I suggest they reach out to the National Patriots who appear to be researching into possibilities to improve the conditions of the masses without cash transfers.
Retired Ambassador.

Winning 2027 Begins With Restoring Dignity Today.
The President should be thinking in this direction. I thank Headlinenews.news for this insightful critique of the door to door campaign launched. The media just kept quiet without saying one word, yet they know it’s a controversial move. I respect, admire and appreciate Headlinenews.news and Dr. Fraser MFR for the courage to write this objective report. May God Almighty continue to grant you more wisdom and courage. You are helping the President because this door to door would have destroyed his image completely. People’s reaction during the door to door program will be publicized and become a big dent on his image. It will be a show of shame. Funding such a project at this time is not just shallow but highly insensitive. The move is wrong.
Elder Statesman.

The Eden Imperative: Launching Projects That Matter. I agree that at this point only Projects that matter should be launched. Let’s not aggravate an already sour situation. Embarking on this door to door is a complete waste of funds. Who is funding them? Is it not Tompolo who has been asked to protect the pipelines? So, the cat is helping itself to the milk it’s supposed to protect? We have clear minded Nigerians and this is an insult to our intelligence. Who is fooling who? Please whoever can advise the President to stop this folly immediately. This period is not for wasteful spending with white elephant Projects. Stop this immediately. What is INEC doing, watching this charade? Is this the time to start door to door campaign when the people are crying from the hardship in the country? Campaign starts about 150 days before elections so INEC must stop these charlatans! Look at the quality of the gladiators. Are these the calibre of people to preside over an organisation to rebrand the President? Who gave them funds for Arise news TV and Channels? I hope Mr President will put a stop to this provocative act which undermines the people. Consult with intelligent people and get the popularity you require be addressing their needs now. There is no time left. Legal Luminary.

ICTN and Agropolis: The Projects That Can Rebuild Public Trust.
I wonder why it is taking so long to get these Projects approved and launched so Nigerians can understand how the administration cares for them. These are more urgent than Door to door. What is door to door using as a basis for convincing the people? Will the people eat roads and bridges? Those campaigning will surely be stoned because the efforts of the administration even though laudable in some respect, needs to address those conditions which make life unbearable for the common man. Excessive bank charges, increased airtime, data tariffs, increased electricity tariffs, irregular power supply, increased dstv fees, non availability of potable water, lack of social welfare, expensive but poor Healthcare, high cost of pharmaceuticals, high cost of food products, high cost of transportation, these are areas that must be addressed immediately for relief Before one thinks of campaigning door to door. I am shocked with this door to door step at this time. I suggest government speaks with the National Patriots as they seem to have more realistic solutions for ensuring the popularity of the President if you want results. Prof. Olawale.

Relief, Recovery, Re-Election: The Right Order for 2027 Success
Exactly what the sequence should be! The Door to Door campaign launched in 2025 is unjustifiable and counterproductive. People’s sentiments will be pronounced and this position will be to the President’s disadvantage. Our survey shows that 88% of Nigerians are not happy with the administration so it’s would have been better to invest in short & medium term solutions to address the pressing issues and cushion the hardship of the Reforms rather than spend on Door to door Campaigns. It’s not what Nigerians need now. The advisers to the President need to be more tactical and strategic. Dr. Imran Khazaly.

How Eden Projects Can Uplift Tinubu’s Popularity by 80%.
This is supposed to be a progressive & reforming administration and President Tinubu is reputed to be a listening President. There is one step he must take immediately to increase his popularity rating index with the people and that is to contact the Eden Projects consultant so that Nigerians will see the dividends of democracy immediately to justify any Campaign. The National Patriots.

From Reform Fatigue to Recovery: A Roadmap for Winning Back Nigerians.
This should be President Tinubu’s priority now. To win back Nigerians. His strategy team has tried so far. We commend them. Now, it is time for him to have another strategy team to give his government a human face. Shikena. It is critical to change direction now. To win Nigerians back, there must be a special intervention team and the National Patriots should spearhead this, in my opinion. We need those with a social conscience and human feeling to drive this. There are things that can be done, so Mr. President should act. Forget Door to Door. We were involved with this project in the past for GEJ, TAN etc. It’s all a scam. We ended up fighting and the project never added any meaningful or visible value to the principal. Please check the records of such projects. Under Stella Oduah, Under Ifeanyi Ubah, under different political actors. It’s a scam to make money. Period. This is the bitter truth. Mr President, please don’t enter one chance Oooo. If you want to dash Tompolo and his goons money, you are free to do so, but think first – how many votes will they deliver? Please do something to relieve the people who will vote tomorrow. Even those defectors lack the political capital you require. They are just good for psychological Warfare.
