Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, has assured residents of Bichi Local Government Area in Kano State that the Emirate Council will facilitate the peaceful transition of their District Head, Munir Sanusi Bayero, to his new role in Bichi.
Reports indicate that police and DSS operatives had blocked access to Gidan Rumfa Palace, restricting movement in and out. While security agencies did not provide explanations for the blockade, sources suggested it was related to the upcoming official installation of the new District Head. Others speculated that it was connected to a planned discussion with economists about controversial tax reform bills.
The Kano State Government has criticized this action, blaming the Federal Government for the interference by security forces.
During a meeting with a delegation from Bichi, who came to express gratitude for the appointment and pledge their allegiance, the Emir stated there had been no clear communication regarding the palace’s sealing.
“This situation is merely a distraction; we still don’t know the reasons behind it, and those responsible have not explained their actions. However, this will not hinder our plans,” he stated. “I assure you that another date will be set, and your District Head will be brought to you peacefully.”
He urged the people of Bichi to remain calm and peaceful, emphasizing their reputation for tranquility. “Encourage the public to stay peaceful and prayerful. No matter the circumstances, peace and prayer will guide us through challenges.”
Sanusi shared his personal connection to Bichi, recalling it as a second home during his childhood. “I know Bichi well; I spent significant time there during my school vacations. The people of Bichi are peace-loving and educated, with strong religious values.”
He added that the respect the people of Bichi hold for the Khalif and his late uncle, Wambai Abubakar, ensures that they will support him as their leader.
The delegation from Bichi included Local Government Chairman Hamza Sule Maifata, Chief Imam Mallam Lawan Abubakar, and Chairman of the Elders Forum Mallam Isyaka Bichi.
