There was tension on Monday morning, April 20, 2026, after Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel was reportedly prevented from entering Adeola Odutola College in Ijebu-Ode, the venue of the Ogun East Caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The former Ogun State governor, who is currently seeking re-election to the Senate representing Ogun East, arrived at the meeting but was allegedly stopped at the entrance by security and party members, preventing him from gaining access to the hall.

The development comes amid an ongoing political contest within the APC in Ogun State, where Governor Dapo Abiodun is also linked to interests surrounding the same senatorial seat, intensifying internal party rivalry in the district.

A video circulating from the scene showed Daniel’s convoy being blocked from entering the venue while supporters and party members outside the gate voiced their backing for him. Another clip captured chants in support of the senator as aides engaged those manning the entrance.

Reports indicate that key decisions regarding the APC senatorial ticket for Ogun East were expected to be discussed at the meeting.

Speaking briefly outside the venue, Daniel expressed displeasure over being denied entry, stating that he arrived early but was not allowed in, and warning that any decisions taken without his participation would not be acceptable.
As of the time of this report, he had not been granted access to the meeting.
