Shock and grief have enveloped Ogun State following the gruesome killing of former Ogun State Television (OGTV) staff member, Madam Kitan Oyesiku, fondly known as “Aunty Kitan,” and her security guard at her residence in Agodo community along the Abeokuta-Siun-Sagamu Expressway.
The tragic incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, has left family members, colleagues, church members and residents in mourning over the death of a woman widely remembered for her warmth, professionalism and dedication during her years in the broadcasting industry.

According to sources familiar with the incident, concerned church members became alarmed when Madam Oyesiku failed to appear for worship. Their visit to her residence turned into a nightmare when they discovered that the security guard had been murdered. Further search around the premises reportedly revealed the lifeless body of the retired broadcaster, prompting an alarm that sent shockwaves through the community.
Both bodies were later deposited at the State Hospital morgue in Ijaiye, Abeokuta.
Although details surrounding the circumstances of the killings remain unclear, the Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the incident. The command’s spokesman, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, assured that an official statement would be issued as investigations progress.
The late Madam Oyesiku belonged to a generation of broadcasters who helped shape public communication and information dissemination in Ogun State. Those who knew her have described her as humble, hardworking and remarkably kind, qualities that have made news of her death particularly painful.

Beyond the tragedy itself lies a deeper concern over the growing threat posed by violent crimes against elderly and retired citizens, many of whom live quietly after decades of service to society.
Security experts have repeatedly warned that intelligence gathering, community policing and swift investigations remain crucial to combating such crimes and restoring public confidence.
For colleagues in the media industry, the loss represents not only the death of a former professional but the silencing of a voice remembered for decency and service.
The National Patriots has condemned the killings in the strongest terms and called for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the double murder.
The civic organization disclosed that it has petitioned the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, AIG Olohundare Jimoh, urging him to ensure that the case receives priority attention and that every available intelligence and forensic resource is deployed to unravel the mystery behind the crime.
The group noted that the reputation of AIG Jimoh as a proactive, intelligence-driven officer who has distinguished himself in combating violent crimes and drug trafficking gives hope that justice will be pursued diligently.
“The brutal killing of a retired broadcaster known for her humanity and service to society is one tragedy too many. The perpetrators must not be allowed to escape justice,” the National Patriots stated.

The organization also commended the renewed spirit of intelligence-led policing being championed by Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, and urged security agencies to intensify efforts to protect vulnerable citizens, particularly retirees and elderly residents.
As investigations continue, colleagues, friends and admirers of Madam Kitan Oyesiku are united in grief and in one prayer—that those responsible for this heinous act are identified, arrested and made to face the full weight of the law.
For now, Ogun State mourns.
The broadcasting community mourns.
And a nation waits for answers.
For justice delayed in such a case would only deepen the pain left behind by a woman many remember simply as a lovely soul whose only legacy was kindness.
