Senator Daisy Ehanire Danjuma (née Ehanire) was born on 6 August 1952 in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. She is a distinguished Nigerian lawyer, business executive, philanthropist, and former senator who represented Edo South Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate from 2003 to 2007.
Early Life and Education
Daisy Danjuma attended Government Secondary School, Benin City, before studying Law at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where she graduated in 1976. She was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1977, beginning a successful legal career.
Professional Career
Before entering politics, she held several notable positions:
State Counsel at the Lagos State Ministry of Justice.
Pioneer Legal Counsel at the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria.
Executive Assistant at Nigerian Acceptances Limited (NAL).
Company Secretary and Legal Adviser at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) from 1982 to 1992.
Later became a senior executive in the private sector, including leadership roles at South Atlantic Petroleum (SAPETRO) and other corporate organizations.
Political Career
In 2003, Daisy Danjuma was elected to the Nigerian Senate to represent Edo South Senatorial District on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). During her tenure (2003–2007), she:
Chaired the Senate Committee on Women Affairs and Youth Development.
Served on the Senate Committees on Health, Education, Finance, and Land Transport.
Chaired the ECOWAS Parliament Committee on Women and Children’s Rights.
Was a member of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.
She sought to return to the Senate in the 2011 general elections, but was unsuccessful.
Business and Philanthropy
Beyond politics, Senator Danjuma has remained influential in business and public service.
