Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni has acknowledged that Spain deserved to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup final after his side suffered a 1-0 defeat in extra time.
Substitute Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the second half of extra time, handing Spain victory over a 10-man Argentina and securing the world title.
Despite the disappointment, Scaloni praised his players for their determination throughout the tournament and said he remains proud of their achievement in reaching a second consecutive World Cup final.
He admitted Spain were the stronger side on the day but said his team gave everything on the pitch and deserved recognition for their efforts.
The Argentina coach also stressed the importance of accepting defeat with dignity, noting that just as the team celebrated its previous successes with humility, it must also handle setbacks with grace.
Scaloni thanked the Argentine supporters for standing behind the team throughout the tournament and assured fans that the players gave their maximum effort in every match.
He added that although missing out on the title was painful, finishing as World Cup runners-up remains a significant accomplishment and one that reflects the hard work and commitment of the entire squad.
