President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna, according to Vice-President Kashim Shettima.
Shettima, who made this announcement during a condolence visit to the Kukah family in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, also disclosed ongoing discussions for the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, Kaduna State.
Government Commitment to Southern Kaduna
Addressing the Ikulu Kingdom during his visit, Shettima highlighted the Tinubu administration’s focus on addressing the region’s development and security needs. He pointed to the appointment of General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff as evidence of the government’s commitment.
“Be rest assured that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has the people of Kaduna and Southern Kaduna at heart,” Shettima stated.
He further commended Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for fostering inclusive governance and pledged that the Federal Government would collaborate with the state government to enhance development in Southern Kaduna, particularly in infrastructure such as road networks.
Condolences and Gratitude
The vice-president’s visit was also to console the Kukah family on the passing of His Highness, Yohanna Sidi Kukah, the Agwom Akulu of Ikulu Chiefdom and family member of Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto.
In his remarks, Bishop Kukah expressed gratitude to Shettima and appealed for attention to the region’s infrastructure challenges. “You can see the nature of the place in which we live. It took you around three and a half hours to get here. The road is largely broken. We are honored to have you as a friend of this Ikulu nation,” Kukah said.
The announcement of a federal university and potential medical center marks a significant step towards improving education, healthcare, and overall development in Southern Kaduna.
