*Today is 27th of Ramadhan 1446AH (27 March 2025)*
*Ramadhan 1446AH Nuggets*
*Zakat al-Fitr is Due at the End of Ramadhan Fasting*
Narrated ‘Abdullah ibn al-‘Abbas:
“ *The Messenger of Allah ﷺ obligated Zakah al-Fitr to serve as purification for the one fasting for any vain speech or indecent behaviour; and also to serve as food for the indigent. Whoever gives it before the prayer (of ‘Eid), it is an accepted zakah, whoever gives it after the prayer, it is to be regarded as sadaqah.*”
Recorded by Abu Dawud and authenticated by Al-Albani
«عن ابن عباس قال: فرض رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم زكاة الفطر طهرة للصائم من اللغو والرفث وطعمة للمساكين من أداها قبل الصلاة فهي زكاة مقبولة ومن أداها بعد الصلاة فهي صدقة من الصدقات» رواه أبو داود وصححه الألباني
*NOTES 📝*
1. In Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Imam Ibn Kathir cites Qatadah, who relayed from the Commander of the believers, Umar bin Abdul-`Aziz, that he would urge people to give Sadaqat or Zakat Al-Fitr, often reciting Surah al-‘Aala, verses 14-15, to emphasize its importance. Additionally, Jabir ibn ‘Abdullah advised believers to safeguard their senses and refrain from falsehoods and immoral acts while fasting. He cautioned against mistreating servants and encouraged maintaining composure and dignity during fasting days. This guidance is recorded in Ibn Abi Shaybah’s book on fasting, under the chapter addressing the fasting person’s responsibility to limit excessive speech and falsehoods.
2. Zakat al-Fitr is one of the acts of worship that Allah bestows upon us. It is a purification and expiation for what the fasting person may have fallen to of deficiency in the month of Ramadhan such as the forbidden speech and to purify him from obscene speech if it is not a major sin, and food for the poor among the Muslims, and it has a specific time during which it is given, as indicated in the hadith under review. About the time, he ﷺ informed that whoever paid it before the ‘Eid prayer, it is zakat accepted with full reward, and whoever paid it after the Eid prayer, then the ruling on that is that it is Sadaqah (charity) like all other alms that are given in charity at all times.
3. We should continue the quest to find Laylat al-Qadr during this period, because some ahadith suggest a strong likelihood for it to occur on the 27th night (till before Fajr today), although this may vary from year to year. One such narration from Ubay Bin Ka’ab asserts, “By Allah, I know which night it is. It is on the night that Allah’s Messenger ﷺ commanded us to perform the Night Prayer. It is on the twenty-seventh night.” – Sahih Muslim
*O Allah, aid us in becoming righteous, grant us Taqwa so that we may do abundant good deeds during the month of Ramadhan and beyond. O Allah, You are Al-‘Afuww (The One Who pardons greatly). You love to pardon, so pardon (forgive) us …. Ãmeen*
The Final Hurdle
The ṣirāṭ is a bridge that extends over Hell-fire. It is thinner than a hair and sharper than a sword. Everyone will have to pass it. You will be given light (nūr) according to your good deeds: the more intense your light, the quicker you will cross over the ṣirāṭ. Some believers will pass over it within the twinkling of an eye, some like the speed of lightning. Others will struggle and have to crawl; each one according to their deeds.
Many, however, will not make it through. The huge spikes and hooks of the ṣirāt will snatch people, and they will tumble headlong into the Hell-fire. The Prophet ﷺ will be standing on the ṣirāṭ saying, ‘O Allah grant safety! O Allah grant safety!’ Imagine the sheer terror of being on this thin bridge: you can see Hell-fire with its blazing flames right under you; you can hear it roaring and raging, and you can see people ahead of you falling right in.
Once you have crossed the ṣirāt, you will have to pass another final bridge known as the qanṭarah. Here, you will settle your issues with other believers, as Paradise can only be entered with a clean heart. Once you are cleansed, you will be ready to step into your eternal home of Paradise.
May Allah al-Ḥakam (The Judge) admit us into Paradise without any reckoning, grant us the intercession of our beloved Prophet ﷺ, and protect us from the humiliation and agonies of the Day of Judgement.
On the 27th day of Ramadan, many believe it could be Laylatul Qadr (The Night of Decree). The following Quranic verses are especially relevant and recommended for recitation and reflection:
1. Surah Al-Qadr (Chapter 97:1-5) – The Night of Decree
This Surah explains the immense blessings of Laylatul Qadr:
“Indeed, We sent the Quran down during the Night of Decree.
And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree?
The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months.
The angels and the Spirit (Jibreel) descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter.
Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.”
(Surah Al-Qadr, 97:1-5)
2. Surah Ad-Dukhan (Chapter 44:3-4) – A Blessed Night
Allah describes a blessed night, often interpreted as Laylatul Qadr:
إِنَّا أَنْزَلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةٍ مُبَارَكَةٍ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُنْذِرِينَ (3) فِيهَا يُفْرَقُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍ (4)
“Indeed, We sent it (the Quran) down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind].
On that night is made distinct every precise matter.”
(Surah Ad-Dukhan, 44:3-4)
—
3. Surah Al-Baqarah (Chapter 2:185) – The Revelation of the Quran in Ramadan
This verse highlights the significance of Ramadan as the month of the Quran:
شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أُنزِلَ فِيهِ ٱلْقُرْءَانُ هُدًۭى لِّلنَّاسِ وَبَيِّنَٰتٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلْهُدَىٰ وَٱلْفُرْقَانِ
“The month of Ramadan [is that] in which the Quran was revealed, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion.”
(Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:185)
4. Surah Az-Zumar (Chapter 39:53) – Seeking Forgiveness
Laylatul Qadr is a perfect time to seek Allah’s forgiveness:
قُلْ يَٰعِبَادِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسْرَفُوا۟ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ لَا تَقْنَطُوا۟ مِن رَّحْمَةِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَغْفِرُ ٱلذُّنُوبَ جَمِيعًا ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
“Say, ‘O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.’”
(Surah Az-Zumar, 39:53)
5. Surah Al-Imran (Chapter 3:191) – Remembering Allah in All Moments
During this special night, one should reflect and remember Allah:
“Those who remember Allah while standing, sitting, and lying on their sides, and reflect on the creation of the heavens and the earth, [saying], ‘Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly; exalted are You [above such a thing]; then protect us from the punishment of the Fire.’”
(Surah Al-Imran, 3:191)
—
Conclusion
On the 27th day/night of Ramadan, recite these verses, reflect on their meaning, and engage in prayers (du’a), dhikr (remembrance), and seeking forgiveness. Laylatul Qadr is a night of mercy, guidance, and immense reward—greater than a thousand months.

Meaning: “O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love to forgive, so forgive me.” (Tirmidhi 3513)
