United States President Donald Trump has asked Congress to approve an emergency spending package worth $87.6 billion, with the bulk of the funds earmarked for military operations linked to the ongoing conflict with Iran.

According to reports, about $67 billion of the request would go to the Department of Defence to cover operational costs, replenish weapons stockpiles, support military personnel, and fund classified programmes associated with the war effort. The proposal has sparked renewed debate in Washington over war powers and congressional oversight of military engagements.

Beyond defence spending, the package also includes $11.1 billion in assistance for American farmers affected by rising costs and market disruptions, as well as $1.4 billion to support efforts to combat an Ebola outbreak in Africa. Additional funding has been proposed for infrastructure and other domestic priorities.
The request comes amid growing political divisions over the Iran conflict, with lawmakers from both major parties demanding greater transparency from the administration regarding military objectives, costs, and the legal basis for continued operations. Several members of Congress have also raised concerns about the long-term economic and political implications of the war.
Congress is expected to review the proposal in the coming weeks, with lawmakers likely to debate both the size of the funding package and the administration’s broader strategy in the Middle East.
