U.S TIGHTENS GRIP: NIGERIAN VISA APPLICANTS FACE ONGOING SECURITY CHECKS AFTER APPROVAL

The United States Mission in Nigeria has stated that visa applicants, including Nigerians, remain subject to continuous security screening even after their visas have been issued.

In a statement shared on its official X handle on Monday, the mission explained that visa vetting is an ongoing, multi-stage process designed to assess applicants’ backgrounds, including criminal records, security risks, and potential links to terrorism.

The mission clarified that the process applies to all applicants regardless of visa category or country of residence, and continues throughout the entire validity period of any approved visa.

It added that security checks begin from the moment an application is submitted, continue through the approval stage, and remain active even after a visa has been granted, to ensure holders still meet eligibility requirements for travel to the United States.

According to the statement, this continuous monitoring is part of broader efforts to maintain strict immigration and security standards.

The advisory is particularly relevant for Nigerian applicants, highlighting the need for full compliance with United States immigration rules and security protocols at all stages of the visa process.
