UK PARTY ACCUSES KEMI BADENOCH OF RUNNING SCARED OVER MP FARAGE’S RESIGNATION

Reform UK chairman Lee Anderson has accused Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch of avoiding political competition after she criticised Nigel Farage over his decision to resign as Member of Parliament for Clacton and trigger a by-election.

Farage announced his resignation on Tuesday, saying he wanted voters in Clacton to decide his political future amid ongoing scrutiny surrounding his financial affairs.

Reacting to the announcement during a live political event, Badenoch argued that all Members of Parliament are required to comply with the same standards of accountability, including rules on declaring donations and gifts.

She criticized Farage’s decision, saying no elected official should consider themselves above parliamentary regulations while investigations are ongoing.

In response, Anderson rejected Badenoch’s comments, claiming the Conservative Party fears contesting the by-election because of its poor electoral performance in Clacton.

He argued that Reform UK made significant gains in the constituency during the last general election and suggested the Conservatives expected another disappointing result if a fresh vote is held.

Anderson also defended Farage, alleging that the Reform UK leader has faced sustained attacks from political opponents and sections of the media, including scrutiny directed at his family.

According to him, Farage believes the people of Clacton, rather than political institutions or the media, should determine whether he deserves to remain their representative.

He further warned that if Farage were forced into another by-election following any future findings from investigations into his finances, it would further damage public confidence in Parliament.

Anderson maintained that the decision should ultimately rest with voters in Clacton, describing the by-election as an opportunity for residents to make their own judgment.

He also revealed that the party hopes the necessary parliamentary procedures will be completed quickly so the by-election can take place within the first weeks of August.

In addition, Anderson announced that Reform UK intends to reimburse the UK government for the estimated £230,000 cost of conducting the by-election, saying the party was prepared to cover the full expense.
