“WE NEEDED $15,000 TO BRING BACK MOJI OLAIYA’S BODY, TINUBU GAVE US $25,000” – YINKA QUADRI EXPLAINS SUPPORT FOR TINUBU ADMINISTRATION

Veteran Nollywood actor Yinka Quadri has explained why he continues to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing the president’s past financial assistance to members of the Yoruba film industry.

Quadri shared his reasons during an appearance on the YouTube programme African A-List, where he recalled Tinubu’s support for entertainers dating back to his time as governor of Lagos State.

According to the actor, Tinubu had assisted members of the industry during difficult periods, including medical emergencies and the loss of colleagues.

Quadri recalled that Tinubu reportedly provided financial assistance towards the medical treatment of late actor Baba Suwe, who battled an illness before his death.

He also recounted the circumstances surrounding the death of actress Moji Olaiya in Canada in 2017. Quadri said he led some of his colleagues, including Faithia Williams and Yomi Fabiyi, to Tinubu’s residence in Bourdillon, Lagos, to seek financial assistance to bring Olaiya’s remains back to Nigeria alongside her daughter.

The veteran actor explained that they initially required about $15,000 to cover the arrangements. However, according to Quadri, Tinubu considered the amount insufficient and eventually gave them $25,000 to facilitate the process.

Quadri said the experience left a lasting impression on him and was one of the reasons for his continued support for the president.

He further described Tinubu as someone who had maintained a longstanding relationship with entertainers and supported practitioners in the Yoruba film industry whenever they approached him for assistance.

The actor’s comments come as political discussions surrounding the 2027 general elections continue to gain momentum, with his personal experiences forming a significant part of his explanation for supporting Tinubu’s administration.
