2 SOLDIERS, POLICEMAN DEAD AS GUNMEN LAUNCH DEADLY ATTACK ON NIPSS IN PLATEAU

Suspected armed men have attacked the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, near Jos in Plateau State, in a late-night assault that left three security operatives dead.

The incident reportedly occurred around midnight when the attackers stormed the facility and opened fire on security personnel stationed at the institute. This led to a fierce exchange of gunfire as guards attempted to repel the intrusion.

According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers breached part of the perimeter fence before engaging security operatives in a prolonged shootout. Two soldiers and one police officer attached to the institute’s security detail were killed in the attack.

Residents in nearby communities were said to have been thrown into panic as heavy gunfire echoed across the area for several minutes.

Security sources confirmed that the attackers were eventually forced to retreat without gaining access to the core areas of the institution, as reinforcements responded swiftly to the incident.

The motive behind the attack remains unknown, while authorities say investigations are ongoing.

In an official response, NIPSS management stated that the situation was brought under control quickly and assured that normal activities at the institute are continuing. The institute also praised the efforts of security operatives and reaffirmed its commitment to safety.

Police authorities in Plateau State have yet to release an official statement on the incident.
