2027: ADC COALITION NEW CRISIS: KWANKWASO, OBI READY TO DEFECT TO NDC.

Fresh cracks have appeared within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition as the 2027 general elections approach, with reports indicating that Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso may soon exit the party for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to political stakeholders within the Kwankwasiyya movement, the decision to realign has already received broad internal approval, with consultations reportedly concluding in near-total agreement among key representatives.

Discussions around the move are said to be at an advanced stage, with only minor details left to finalise. Sources within the movement suggest that both Kwankwaso and Obi could formally join the NDC early next week.

A senior figure within the movement noted that delegates from all local government areas in Kano gathered recently at Kwankwaso’s residence to deliberate on the future direction of the coalition. The outcome, according to insiders, was a unanimous decision to pursue a new political platform.

He explained that the ADC’s ongoing leadership disputes played a major role in the decision, adding that the prolonged legal battles and uncertainty within the party made it difficult to sustain unity or long-term planning.

The situation was further complicated after a recent Supreme Court intervention sent the internal leadership dispute back to a lower court, effectively prolonging the crisis without delivering a final resolution. This development, stakeholders believe, deepened concerns over stability within the coalition.

With multiple court cases still pending and internal disagreements unresolved, members of the movement argue that remaining in the ADC could delay preparations ahead of electoral deadlines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Although other political platforms were considered, including the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), the National Democratic Congress ultimately emerged as the preferred destination for the anticipated defection.

The coalition is also facing internal disagreements over zoning and candidate selection, with some key figures absent from recent strategic meetings. Tensions reportedly grew after disagreements over whether the presidential ticket should be zoned, a debate that has continued to divide stakeholders.

Earlier attempts to build unity through a joint political movement between Obi and Kwankwaso had raised expectations of collaboration ahead of 2027, but the current developments suggest a major shift in strategy.
