The immediate past Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, on Tuesday met with the state executive council of the party, where he formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election.
Speaking at the APC state secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan, Adelabu told party leaders that his visit was to officially inform them of his ambition and to express confidence in both securing the party’s ticket and winning the election.
He assured stakeholders of his loyalty to the APC and promised to run an inclusive administration focused on development, wealth creation, and equitable distribution of projects across all parts of the state if elected governor.

Adelabu also said his governance approach would combine experience and youthful energy, adding that no region of Oyo State would be sidelined under his leadership.
He further claimed he enjoys the support of President Bola Tinubu, describing the President as a political mentor and father figure whose backing would strengthen his chances in 2027.
Addressing concerns about party unity and internal arrangements, Adelabu urged fairness and adherence to due process in the selection of candidates.
“Don’t let them hijack our party. I am ready to follow due process. No one can declare themselves consensus candidate without proper consultation with all stakeholders,” he said.
He added that any attempt to impose a consensus candidate without involving party executives, aspirants, and key political blocs would not stand.
Adelabu reaffirmed his determination to contest and expressed confidence in emerging victorious at the polls.

“I will contest, win, and become the next governor of Oyo State in 2027,” he said.
He also praised the current APC leadership in the state, describing them as capable of strengthening the party ahead of the elections.
In response, the APC State Chairman, Chief Moses Adeyemo, commended Adelabu’s consultative approach, describing him as a loyal party member with the capacity to contribute meaningfully to the party’s success.
The meeting was attended by key state executives, including the deputy chairman, secretary, women leader, youth leader, and legal adviser, among others.
The development comes amid growing political activity within the Oyo APC, where several aspirants have begun consultations ahead of the 2027 elections. Recent endorsements and counter-endorsements within the party have further highlighted internal competition for the governorship ticket.
Adelabu recently resigned from his position as Minister of Power to fully pursue his governorship ambition, a move that has intensified political alignment and discussions within the party structure in Oyo State.
