2027: MY VICE PRESIDENTIAL TICKET IS ONE-WAY ROUTE TO THE PRESIDENCY – KWANKWASO

Kwankwaso: VP Ticket Is My Path to Presidency in 2027

Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has said that his expected vice-presidential ticket under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) would serve as a “direct route” to the presidency, describing the 2027 general elections as a defining moment in Nigeria’s political history.

Kwankwaso made the remark on Sunday during a media tour of radio stations in Kano, where he spoke on ongoing political alignments ahead of the 2027 elections.

He urged voters in Kano and across the country to support the NDC, stressing that backing the party would also mean backing his political future, especially if he emerges as the running mate to Peter Obi.

According to him, the 2027 election will mark a major turning point in Nigeria’s democratic journey.

“We are about to witness a historic election, the likes of which have never been seen before in Kano and Nigeria,” he said.

“Once I emerge as vice-presidential candidate and my name is on the ballot, anyone voting for the NDC is voting for Rabiu Kwankwaso as well.

“This is important for Kano because, since the First Republic, no son of the state has held the position of vice president. This is a historical gap we are set to correct.

“A vice-presidential ticket for Kano is a one-way route to producing a president from Kano in the future. We will build on that opportunity to ensure our people benefit.”

Kwankwaso also called on supporters to mobilise ahead of the elections, urging increased voter registration and participation across the North-West and the country at large.

Meanwhile, he used the opportunity to criticise Governor Abba Yusuf over his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as a political betrayal.

Governor Yusuf recently left the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) for the APC alongside several lawmakers and local government officials in Kano, a move that has deepened political tension within the state.

Kwankwaso, however, maintained that the real focus should remain on the 2027 elections, which he believes will reshape Nigeria’s political landscape.
