The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, has expressed support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Oladipupo Adebutu, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The monarch gave his endorsement when Adebutu and members of his campaign team visited the Egba Traditional Council to seek the blessings of the royal fathers for his governorship ambition.
During the meeting, Oba Gbadebo praised the Adebutu family for its long-standing contributions to the development of Egbaland, highlighting the philanthropic legacy of Adebutu’s father, Chief Kessington Adebukunola Adebutu.
The traditional ruler recounted how the elder Adebutu personally funded the purchase of a building for an Egba association in Lagos after members had begun raising funds for the project, describing the gesture as a remarkable act of generosity.
He offered prayers for Oladipupo Adebutu’s political ambition and wished him success in the 2027 governorship race.
In his remarks, Adebutu thanked the traditional rulers for their support and pledged to strengthen grassroots governance if elected. He promised to grant full financial autonomy to local government councils, saying the move would improve development and service delivery across Ogun State.
He also outlined plans to promote infrastructure development through partnerships with the private sector rather than relying heavily on borrowing. According to him, his administration would prioritise road construction to improve connectivity between Ogun State and Lagos while expanding electricity supply to support economic growth and reduce energy costs.
Adebutu further criticised the continued control of local government allocations by state governments, arguing that genuine grassroots development can only be achieved when councils have direct access to their funds and work closely with traditional institutions.
He assured residents that his administration would pursue inclusive governance and focus on improving the welfare of the people.
