Political parties and candidates planning to display campaign materials in Anambra State ahead of the 2027 general elections will be required to obtain permits and pay designated fees before carrying out outdoor promotional activities.
The announcement was made by the Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency (ANSAA), which stated that presidential candidates will pay N50 million for campaign permits. Senatorial candidates will be charged N20 million, while House of Representatives aspirants will pay N5 million.
According to the agency, candidates seeking seats in the Anambra State House of Assembly will pay N1.5 million, while local government chairmanship candidates will be charged N2.5 million. Councillorship candidates are expected to pay N100,000.
The permit requirement covers campaign activities such as billboards, posters, banners, branded vehicles, public address systems, rallies, campaign booths, flyers, T-shirts, caps and other outdoor promotional materials.
ANSAA explained that the policy is aimed at regulating campaign activities, protecting public infrastructure, maintaining environmental standards, ensuring fairness in access to advertising spaces and preventing visual pollution across the state.
The agency also directed that all campaign materials must receive approval from the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) before being displayed. Political actors were warned against destroying or defacing opponents’ campaign materials and advised to conduct their campaigns peacefully.
In addition, ANSAA cautioned against indiscriminate placement of posters on public structures, including bridges, road signs, drainage channels and government facilities. It stressed that only licensed advertising practitioners authorised by the agency would be permitted to erect billboards and advertising structures within the state.
The agency noted that compliance teams would monitor campaign activities throughout the election period and apply sanctions against violators in line with existing laws.
The permit fees represent a significant increase from those announced ahead of the 2023 general elections, when presidential candidates were required to pay N10 million for similar campaign activities in the state.
