2027: Tinubu’s prospects remain strong in Osun, says Orji Kalu
Former Abia State Governor and Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s chances of securing strong support in Osun State remain bright ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Kalu said the outcome of the August 15 Osun governorship election should not be viewed as a setback for Tinubu or an indication of declining support for the President in the state.
He made the remarks in a statement issued by his media office on Sunday while reacting to Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election.
Kalu congratulated Adeleke on his victory and expressed sympathy with the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, the party’s governorship candidate and other APC supporters over the election result.
“I join President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in congratulating Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election as the Governor of Osun State. I also sympathise with the APC leadership, our party’s governorship candidate and all our supporters over the outcome of the election,” he said.
The former governor also commended the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and former Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, for his contributions to the development of the state.
Kalu described the election as an expression of democracy, stressing that the decision of voters must be respected by all political stakeholders.
He said the APC should learn from the outcome and return stronger ahead of future elections.
“What happened in Osun is democracy in play. Elections are about the choice of the people, and as a party, we should be able to come back stronger,” he said.
Despite the APC’s defeat in the governorship election, Kalu maintained that Tinubu’s political prospects in Osun remained strong ahead of 2027.
He predicted that the President could attract support from different political groups and stakeholders in the state, including members of the APC and Accord Party.
Kalu therefore urged political leaders and supporters to remain committed to democratic principles and continue working towards Nigeria’s development and unity.
