Three Nigerian soldiers were reportedly killed while several others sustained injuries after their patrol vehicle allegedly detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Saturday morning near Babanna, between Machiyan Gyada and Baturen Daji in the Dekara axis, as the troops were returning from a routine security patrol.
Local sources said the patrol vehicle struck a suspected roadside bomb, triggering the explosion that resulted in the casualties.
As of the time of reporting, the Nigerian Armed Forces and the Niger State Government had not officially confirmed the incident or released a statement on the reported attack.
The development comes just weeks after three separate IED explosions were recorded in Sokoto State, fueling concerns over the increasing use of roadside explosives against security personnel in parts of northern Nigeria.
