Thirty Children Abducted by Bandits in Katsina State Freed

Thirty children who were abducted by bandits at Kasai village in the Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State have been successfully freed. The Police Public Relations Officer of the Katsina State Police Command, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed this development to Channels Television on Tuesday. He highlighted that the children’s release was made possible through a joint effort by the command, working in conjunction with relevant stakeholders, and he expressed satisfaction with the positive outcome.

The incident occurred on Monday when the bandits abducted the children, mostly girls, who were out fetching firewood in the bush. Upon receiving the report, the Command swiftly initiated an investigation and rescue operation to secure the release of the kidnapped victims and apprehend the perpetrators. The police spokesperson assured that any further developments would be shared promptly.

A local resident, Muhammad Batsari, also verified the successful release of the abducted children, stating, “I was informed this morning that all the kidnapped victims have been freed by the bandits.”

In a separate incident, gunmen carried out a kidnapping at the Federal University Wukari in Taraba State, abducting two students from the Economics and Microbiology Departments. The gunmen operated for nearly an hour on Monday night, causing panic and injuring several students. Unfortunately, security agencies did not intervene despite the presence of a checkpoint nearby. One resident, Moses Tapwa, managed to escape, but his two student staff members were among those taken.

The abducted students, identified as Joshua Sardauna and Obianu Elizabeth, are currently being held captive. The university authorities are actively engaged in efforts to ensure the safe return of the students, acknowledging the seriousness of the situation and prioritizing their swift and secure release.
