At least five people were killed and several others remain missing after armed bandits ambushed residents of Kyaram community as they returned from Maga Market in Bukkuyyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Wednesday evening.
The attack has sparked widespread fear among rural communities in the area, with residents questioning the authorities’ response to repeated violence targeting civilians.
Security alert platform Bakatsine confirmed the incident on Thursday, stating:
“Armed bandits ambushed residents of Kyaram yesterday evening as they returned from Maga Market in Bukkuyyum LGA, Zamfara State. At least 5 people have been confirmed dead, while several others are still missing. Search and rescue efforts are ongoing, but fear is spreading fast across nearby rural communities.”
Bakatsine added: “Residents are asking the big question: What immediate steps are authorities taking to find the missing and stop these repeated attacks on rural areas?”
The latest assault follows a separate incident on January 28, when at least 20 persons were abducted from Dausayi village in Zamfara State by bandits reportedly led by notorious kingpin Yellow Janbross.
Security sources told analyst Zagazola Makama that the Dausayi attack occurred around 4:00 pm, causing panic among residents. The Divisional Police Officer of Dansadau Division, in coordination with joint security forces, was mobilised to the scene, with rescue efforts ongoing.
As of press time, the Zamfara State Police Command had not issued an official statement confirming the Wednesday attack on Kyaram residents.
The incidents highlight the persistent threat of banditry in Zamfara and other northwest states, where armed groups continue to target rural communities, markets, and travelers despite ongoing military operations.
