‘PREFERRED DESTINATION’, BAUCHI GOVERNOR SIGNALS POSSIBLE DEFECTION TO ADC

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has indicated that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is his preferred political platform, raising speculation about a possible exit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Mohammed made the remark on Tuesday in Bauchi after meeting with an ADC delegation led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal, at Ramat House.

He explained that efforts to resolve internal issues within the PDP had failed, prompting him to consider other options within the opposition.

“We left all our options open, including the APC, but we realised we cannot remain where we are not wanted. We must find a place within the opposition,” he said.

The governor described the ADC as a party that aligns with his political vision and enjoys acceptance among his supporters. He added that consultations were ongoing, which is why a final decision had not yet been announced.

“Because I am managing both Bauchi State and national interests, we must act carefully. That is why discussions have taken time,” he said.

Mohammed hinted that a formal announcement of his defection would be made soon, noting that negotiations were still ongoing to finalise the move. He also stressed the importance of collaboration among opposition figures to build a strong political front ahead of 2027.

Meanwhile, Babachir Lawal warned that Nigeria’s future could be at risk if the ruling party remains in power, urging opposition leaders to unite. He revealed that efforts are underway to bring different opposition groups together under the leadership of former Senate President David Mark, describing the next general election as crucial for the country’s direction.
