The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has approved the elevation of 68 lawyers to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), recognizing their outstanding contributions to the legal profession.
The announcement was made on Thursday by the Secretary of the LPPC and Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Kabir Akanbi, following the committee’s 174th plenary meeting held on July 23, 2026.
According to the committee, the SAN title is awarded to legal practitioners who have distinguished themselves through exceptional advocacy in the courts or remarkable contributions to legal education and scholarship.
The LPPC also stated that all successful candidates must participate in and complete a compulsory pre-swearing-in induction programme before the rank can be officially conferred. The date for the programme will be announced later.
In addition, the committee reminded all shortlisted candidates to comply with the directives of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN) by avoiding the publication or promotion of congratulatory messages, advertisements, or goodwill notices regarding their nomination or conferment. It warned that violations of the relevant legal and professional conduct rules could attract disciplinary sanctions.
The successful applicants are expected to be formally sworn in on October 12, 2026.
Among those elevated to the SAN rank are Ibrahim Gamdeh Adamu, Jude Chukwuemeka Okafor, Goodwill Achibong Umoh, Sunday Samuel Obende, Adebayo Olugbenga Adaralegbe, Jimson Ejovi Okodaso, Olalekan Lawrence Bade-John, Olaotan Thomas Olusegun, Philemon Audu Daffi, Adenrele David Adegborioye, James Eromosele Agbonhese, Alexander Nduka Muoka, Onome Okodiya, Emmanuel Akunke Akomaye, and Ikhide Ekhighelua.
