The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has directed marine personnel in the Niger Delta region to intensify security operations along the waterways to combat sea robbery and other maritime crimes.
Speaking at the commissioning of six new gunboats in Rivers State on Tuesday, the IGP—represented by Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Muhammed Ali—emphasized the importance of securing the region’s waterways and ensuring the arrest and prosecution of criminal elements. He urged citizens and stakeholders to support the police in making Rivers State and the Niger Delta safe.
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, commended the police for responding swiftly to security concerns along the waterways. Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, the governor expressed appreciation for the IGP’s proactive measures and acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to enhancing security under the Renewed Hope Agenda (RHA).
Fubara reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to peace and security, pledging continued support for the police and other security agencies to ensure the safety of residents and businesses in Rivers State.
