Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died at the age of 66.
The actor’s death was confirmed on Sunday, August 23, 2026, by his daughter, Kira Taiwo, during an emotional Instagram livestream.
Ogogo had been battling stage four cancer, with his family publicly seeking possible treatment options after doctors reportedly informed them that chemotherapy was no longer suitable for his condition.
Earlier in August, his daughters, Kira and Lima Taiwo, had appealed to the public for medical advice that could help their father. They clarified that they were not seeking financial assistance but wanted information about treatments, medical procedures and other possible options.
The family’s search for help also attracted attention from individuals who offered alternative remedies. However, tensions arose after a cleric who reportedly visited Ogogo to provide herbal treatment allegedly shared details of the visit online.
Kira later expressed her frustration over the public exposure of her father’s condition, saying the situation caused additional emotional pain for the family.
She also revealed that some relatives only became aware of the severity of Ogogo’s illness after videos and information about his condition circulated online.
The veteran actor’s final days were therefore marked by both a difficult health battle and intense public attention surrounding his condition.
Ogogo was widely recognised for his contributions to Yoruba-language cinema and remained a respected figure in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
His death marks the loss of one of Nollywood’s veteran performers, with tributes expected from colleagues, fans and members of the wider entertainment community.
