BREAKING: Meranda Resigns as Lagos Assembly Speaker

Mojisola Meranda has resigned as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly seven weeks after holding the leadership mantle.

The lawmaker who represents Apapa Constituency I announced her resignation on Monday as lawmakers re-elected her as the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly.

Meranda said she resigned to protect the state assembly, adding that she is not a quitter.

“I take a bow as you as your Speaker,” she announced.

The lawmakers commended her leadership style and for bringing peace to the Lagos State House of Assembly.

They also commended her strength and humility for obeying the rules and regulations of the All Progressives Congress.

Showering praises on Meranda, Desmond Olusola Elliot thanked her, saying she demonstrated good leadership and led the house well.

Another lawmaker, Temitope Adewale Ifako-Ijaiye I, said, “We celebrate you for your quality service. You are a heroine of democracy. You came, you saw, you conquer. You are a victim of circumstance. This house is in tears.”

Meanwhile, after Meranda’s resignation, a lawmaker, who represents Agege Constituency I, Mudashiru Obasa, has been re-elected as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Obasa’s re-election followed the nomination of a former Majority Leader of the House, Noheem Adams, representing Eti-Osa Constituency 1
