Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has denied allegations that he interfered with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC)’s planned town hall meeting in the state following the party’s claim that its booking for an event venue was suddenly withdrawn.
The controversy followed the reported withdrawal of approval granted to the opposition party to use Amadeo Event Centre for its planned meeting scheduled for Thursday, October 29, 2026.

Sampson Ukwu, media aide to the NDC governorship candidate in Enugu State, Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa, had accused the state government of attempting to frustrate the party’s activities.
Ukwu said the party had already secured the venue for the event, which was scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., before the management allegedly reversed its decision.
He described the development as another attempt to disrupt peaceful opposition activities in the state.

The NDC had planned to host its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, alongside other party leaders at the meeting.
Despite the reported withdrawal, the party insisted that the event would proceed, declaring that its members would not be intimidated by what it described as political obstruction.
However, Governor Mbah dismissed the allegations in a Facebook post, describing them as false and insisting that he had no involvement in the venue’s decision.

The governor noted that Amadeo Event Centre is a privately owned facility, questioning why he would direct a private business to prevent an opposition party from holding its programme.
He further described the accusation as an attempt by the opposition to attract public attention.
Mbah also warned against the use of freedom of speech to make defamatory allegations, stressing that democratic principles provide legal channels for seeking redress.
