The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a former immigration officer attempting to sell advanced firearms to bandits operating in the Abuja-Kaduna forests.
The ex-officer, whose name remains undisclosed, was caught during an intelligence-led operation that prevented the weapons from reaching criminal elements. Speaking on the operation, Officer in Charge of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Mustafa Mohammed, confirmed that among the recovered arms was a Scorpion CZ EVO3, a highly sophisticated automatic firearm equipped with an inbuilt silencer.
“This is the latest model, capable of single, automatic, or burst fire. The weapon’s magazine can hold up to 30 rounds, making it extremely dangerous if it had fallen into the wrong hands,” Mohammed stated. A total of 52 rounds of ammunition were also seized.
Meanwhile, FCT Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu, disclosed that between January 1 and February 28, 2025, the command arrested 300 suspects, including 59 armed robbers, 10 kidnappers and informants, and 16 cultists. Several high-risk areas, including Dei-Dei, Karu, Gwarinpa, Jikwoyi, Karimo, and Maitama, were targeted in the operations.
Disu emphasized that abandoned buildings used as criminal hideouts are under surveillance and will continue to be raided as part of efforts to rid the FCT of crime.
