#El-Rufai Slams Nigerian Politicians for Selfishness in Resurfaced Video

A resurfaced video of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has sparked discussions online, as he criticized Nigerian politicians for prioritizing personal interests over public service.

In the clip, El-Rufai lamented that politicians switch parties after losing elections rather than supporting their party’s chosen candidate, describing this as a self-serving political culture that undermines democracy.

El-Rufai: Politicians Put Themselves First

Speaking in the old video, El-Rufai stated:

“Our politics is driven by private interests, not public interest or the common good. Politicians claim to serve the people, but their actions prove otherwise.”

He further argued that politicians who lose party nominations often defect to opposition parties instead of backing the winners:

“When a politician loses, instead of supporting the winner, they switch parties and work against them. This is why our democracy remains weak.”

El-Rufai also blamed civilians for instigating military coups, alleging that those who lost elections in the past often fueled instability.

Context: Fallout with APC and Ministerial Rejection

El-Rufai’s political stance has shifted in recent months following his fallout with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu.

In August 2023, his nomination for a ministerial position was blocked by the Senate, citing security concerns raised by the State Security Service (SSS).

Since then, he has become one of the most vocal critics of the Tinubu administration, recently defecting to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) after claiming that Tinubu personally rejected his appointment.

Video Trends Amid Political Tensions

El-Rufai’s old remarks have resurfaced at a time when many APC members are rumored to be defecting, fueling debates about loyalty, party politics, and governance in Nigeria.
