The Commissioner of Police in Benue State, CP Emenari Ifeanyi, has redeployed Tactical Commanders to violence-prone areas across the state in response to escalating threats from armed herdsmen, kidnappers, bandits, and other criminal elements.
Barely two weeks into his tenure at the command headquarters in Makurdi, CP Ifeanyi has charged his commanders to re-strategize and aggressively address the growing security challenges facing local communities.
According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Catherine Anene, the CP also emphasized the need for collaboration with other security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders, and local stakeholders in a united effort to restore peace and safety.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force continues to record major breakthroughs through its intelligence-led, proactive operations nationwide.
In a recent operation on May 3, 2025, Benue State Police operatives engaged suspected bandits from the Shitele and Ukum areas. A fierce gun battle near the Tse-Gondo axis led to the neutralization of three armed suspects, who later died from gunshot wounds sustained during the encounter. Two locally fabricated firearms and live cartridges were recovered at the scene.
In Delta State, the CP Special Assignment Team arrested Henry Okpor, a notorious car thief, on April 22, 2025. Items recovered included a pump-action rifle, a Toyota Highlander SUV (Reg. No. RBC-414-BL), and a Hyundai vehicle (Reg. No. LSD-367-DU), all suspected to be stolen.
The Delta Command also intensified its crackdown on cultism. On April 25, 2025, two confirmed members of the Vikings confraternity—Mudiaga Okparume and Arinze Humble—were arrested. Police recovered two Beretta pistols and five rounds of live ammunition from the suspects.
In a separate incident on April 26, 2025, police operatives swiftly responded to a kidnapping report involving two victims abducted in Agbarho. The suspects were tracked to the Uvwiama forest in Ughelli North LGA, where a rescue operation led to the safe recovery of the victims. Nine suspects were arrested, and a cache of weapons was recovered, including three pump-action guns, double and single-barrel firearms, a locally made weapon, and 13 rounds of live ammunition.
These developments underscore the Nigeria Police Force’s renewed commitment to combating violent crime and protecting lives and property across the country.
