The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, 2025, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Adha (Sallah) celebrations.
The announcement was made on Monday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement issued by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.
Tunji-Ojo congratulated all Muslims in Nigeria and around the world on the occasion, urging them to reflect on the values of sacrifice and faith demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be upon him). He also encouraged Muslims to use the period to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity in Nigeria.
The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, assuring citizens that ongoing reforms are designed to restore the country’s path to progress and national development.
While extending warm wishes to the Muslim Ummah for a joyful and fulfilling Eid-ul-Adha, Tunji-Ojo called on all Nigerians to support the administration’s efforts in rebuilding and repositioning the nation.
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as Eid-el-Kabir, will be observed on Friday, June 6, 2025 — the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah in the Islamic calendar. Arafat Day, which precedes the Eid, will be observed on Thursday, June 5.
