Lagos Police Arrest Most-Wanted Killer Wasiu Akinwande in Major Crime Crackdown

The Lagos State Police Command has announced a major breakthrough in its ongoing battle against violent crime. On June 20, 2025, operatives of the Tactical Squad carried out a strategic and coordinated special operation, codenamed “Silence, Speed, and Surprise,” which led to the arrest of Wasiu Akinwande, also known as Olori Eso—a 44-year-old notorious hired killer, cult leader, and head of multiple criminal gangs that have long terrorized Mushin and surrounding areas in Lagos.

Regarded as the most wanted suspect in Lagos in recent times, Akinwande was finally apprehended at a hideout in Agbado, Ogun State, after evading arrest for years. Since 2009, he and his gangs have unleashed a wave of violence, including armed robbery, murder, kidnapping, and cult-related killings, instilling fear and insecurity in local communities, especially in Mushin.

According to police sources, Akinwande’s criminal acts have left deep scars on countless families, with several cases of brutal killings currently under investigation. Despite frequently changing locations to evade capture, the Lagos State Police remained relentless in their pursuit. A subsequent raid on his residence in Mushin yielded a cache of deadly weapons.

The items recovered include:

  • 2 AK-47 rifles
  • 1 K2 assault rifle
  • 1 Red Ryder rifle
  • 3 pump-action rifles
  • 2 locally made single-barrel pistols
  • 5 magazines
  • 57 live cartridges
  • 70 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition
  • 27 rounds of 9mm ammunition
  • 1 expended 5.56mm shell
  • 1 dagger
  • 3 walkie-talkies
  • 9 international passports belonging to various individuals

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has directed the Deputy Commissioner, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), to expand the investigation and apprehend all associates linked to Akinwande’s criminal network. Already, four families have stepped forward to identify him as the person responsible for the deaths of their children and relatives.

CP Jimoh reassured Lagosians that the safety and security of residents remain the Command’s top priority. He commended the officers involved in the successful operation for their courage and commitment. The public is urged to continue partnering with the police by reporting suspicious activities and providing actionable information.

Wasiu Akinwande is currently in custody under heavy security and will face justice for his crimes. The Lagos State Police Command remains resolute in its mission to rid the state of criminal elements and safeguard the lives and property of all residents and visitors.

Residents are encouraged to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station, as the investigation continues and further updates will be shared in due course.
